Reid Nelson is a golf writer and public relations professional based in Charleston, S.C., who has more than 30 years experience in the golf business. Since 1988, he has owned and operated Reid Nelson Promotions, a marketing and public relations agency working exclusively with clients from within the golf industry. Prior to that, he served as the first public relations director for an emerging East Coast golf resort and, in that role, helped the property develop into one of the "top 100" golf destinations in the world, according to two major golf publications. While at the resort, he served as vice chairman and media chairman for the 1985 U.S. Senior Amateur.

Since launching his own firm, Nelson has worked with clients from across the United States, as well as in Europe and Central America. His PR efforts have helped nearly a dozen courses earn "top 100" status and more than 10 courses earn recognition in various "Best New" listings. When the PGA of America named Kiawah Island as site of the 1991 Ryder Cup Matches, he served on the tournament committee, working directly with the president of Kiawah Island Golf & Tennis, as well as the Executive Tournament Director.

In addition to his public relations business, he is a partner and Director of Operations for the Mid-Atlantic Golf Academy, a junior golf school located in the Shenandoah foothills just west of Washington, D.C. The Academy was founded by Fred Greenberg, a pioneer of the youth summer camp industry, and shares a campus with Greenberg's Timber Ridge Camp, which was founded in 1955, making it one of the oldest, most successful youth summer camps in the country.
