Interview With Golf Packages of SC

The Ultimate 10 Day SC Golf Vacation

By Brian Weis

Brian Weis, Publisher of GolfTrips.com, interviewed Ricky Saucier from Golf Packages of South Carolina, LLC about planning the ultimate day golf trip to South Carolina.

Brian Weis: If myself and 7 buddies wanted to do the ultimate 10 day golf trip to SC. What region(s) and courses must be on my itinerary?

Ricky Saucier: South Carolina has some of the best golf in the country. The ultimate 10 day trip would have to be along the SC coast; starting in Hilton Head, Harbour Town Golf Links and Palmetto Dunes Jones Course. Head north to Kiawah Island Golf Resort and The Ocean Course and Turtle Point at Kiawah Island Golf Resort. Wake up and travel north of Charleston to the Isle of Palms and Wild Dunes Links Course. Finish up the Charleston area at RiverTowne Country Club. Move on To Myrtle Beach playing True Blue and Caledonia in Pawleys Island. Finish your trip with GrandeDunes Resort Course and Glen Dornoch Waterway Links.

Brian Weis: We typically golf 36 holes a day but may have a day or two where we golf 18 and do some non golf activities. What are the "must dos" for those areas?

Ricky Saucier: Take a day off to sport fish or deep sea fishing; depending on the time of year at any of these destinations along the coast. Another idea is to take a day to visit historic downtown Charleston.

Brian Weis: Does South Carolina have some good inland golf?

Ricky Saucier: Of course, you could do another 10 day trip. My hidden gem 10 day tour would start in the Olde English District (south of Charlotte NC) Start with Springfield Golf Club then head south towards Columbia playing Edgewater Golf Club and Cobblestone Park. Play The Golf Club of SC at Crickentree before heading west toward Aiken. Play the historic Aiken Golf Club founded in 1912; then head over to North Augusta, SC to The River Golf Club located along the SavannahRriver. Head next to the northwest corner of the state or upstate and play Monticello in McCormick and The Patriot, a Davis Love III design in Greenwood. Finish up the trip in the upstate playing The Walker Course at Clemson University and Woodfin Ridge Golf Club.

Brian Weis: If someone wanted to book a trip, briefly what services do you provide and how can they contact you?

Ricky Saucier: At Golf Packages of South Carolina we customize and book golf packages for 2 to 120 golfers. Our services include securing sleeping accommodations, dinner reservations, tee times and car rental.

About: Brian Weis

Brian Weis Brian Weis is the mastermind behind GolfTrips.com, a vast network of golf travel and directory sites covering everything from the rolling fairways of Wisconsin to the sunbaked desert layouts of Arizona. If there’s a golf destination worth visiting, chances are, Brian has written about it, played it, or at the very least, found a way to justify a "business trip" there.

As a card-carrying member of the Golf Writers Association of America (GWAA), International Network of Golf (ING), Golf Travel Writers of America (GTWA), International Golf Travel Writers Association (IGTWA), and The Society of Hickory Golfers (SoHG), Brian has the credentials to prove that talking about golf is his full-time job. In 2016, his peers even handed him The Shaheen Cup, a prestigious award in golf travel writing—essentially the Masters green jacket for guys who don’t hit the range but still know where the best 19th holes are.

Brian’s love for golf goes way back. As a kid, he competed in junior and high school golf, only to realize that his dreams of a college golf scholarship had about the same odds as a 30-handicap making a hole-in-one. Instead, he took the more practical route—working on the West Bend Country Club grounds crew to fund his University of Wisconsin education. Little did he know that mowing greens and fixing divots would one day lead to a career writing about the best courses on the planet.

In 2004, Brian turned his golf passion into a business, launching GolfWisconsin.com. Three years later, he expanded his vision, and GolfTrips.com was born—a one-stop shop for golf travel junkies looking for their next tee time. Today, his empire spans all 50 states, and 20+ international destinations.

On the course, Brian is a weekend warrior who oscillates between a 5 and 9 handicap, depending on how much he's been traveling (or how generous he’s feeling with his scorecard). His signature move" A high, soft fade that his playing partners affectionately (or not-so-affectionately) call "The Weis Slice." But when he catches one clean, his 300+ yard drives remind everyone that while he may write about golf for a living, he can still send a ball into the next zip code with the best of them.

Whether he’s hunting down the best public courses, digging up hidden gems, or simply outdriving his buddies, Brian Weis is living proof that golf is more than a game—it’s a way of life.
